Air filter is a type of filter, also known as air filter cartridge, air filter, style, etc. Mainly used for air filtration in engineering locomotives, automobiles, agricultural locomotives, laboratories, sterile operating rooms, and various precision operating rooms.

During the operation of the engine, a large amount of air needs to be sucked in. If the air is not filtered and the suspended dust in the air is sucked into the cylinder, it will accelerate the wear of the piston group and cylinder. Large particles entering between the piston and cylinder can cause serious "cylinder pulling" phenomenon, especially in dry and sandy working environments. The air filter is installed in front of the carburetor or intake pipe to filter out dust and sand particles in the air, ensuring that sufficient and clean air enters the cylinder.

Type of air filter

According to the filtration principle, air filters can be divided into several types: filtration type, centrifugal type, oil bath type, and composite type. The commonly used air filters in engines include inertia oil bath air filters, paper dry air filters, polyurethane filter air filters, and other types. The inertia oil bath air filter has undergone three stages of filtration: inertia filtration, oil bath filtration, and filtration filtration. The latter two types of air filters are mainly filtered through the filter element filtration. Inertia oil bath air filters have the advantages of low intake resistance, adaptability to dusty and sandy working environments, and long service life. They were previously used on various models of car and tractor engines. However, this type of air filter has low filtration efficiency, high weight, high cost, and inconvenient maintenance, and has gradually been phased out in automotive engines. The filter element of the paper dry air filter is made of resin treated microporous filter paper. The filter paper is porous, loose, folded, and has a certain mechanical strength and water resistance. It has the advantages of high filtration efficiency, simple structure, light weight, low cost, and convenient maintenance. It is currently the most widely used automotive air filter. The polyurethane filter element of the air filter is made of soft, porous, sponge like polyurethane with strong adsorption capacity. This type of air filter has the advantages of paper dry air filters, but has low mechanical strength and is widely used in car engines. The disadvantage of the latter two types of air filters is their short service life and their unreliable operation in harsh environmental conditions.

Installation and use

1. During installation, whether flange, rubber pipe connection or direct connection is used between the air filter and the engine intake pipe, it must be tight and reliable to prevent air leakage. Rubber washers must be installed on both ends of the filter element; The wing nut securing the air filter cover should not be tightened too tightly to avoid damaging the paper filter element.

2. During maintenance, the paper filter element must not be cleaned in oil, otherwise the paper filter element will fail and may also cause flying accidents. During maintenance, only vibration method, soft brush removal method (brush along its wrinkles), or compressed air back blowing method can be used to remove dust and dirt attached to the surface of the paper filter element. For the coarse filter section, dust collection areas, blades, and cyclone tubes should be promptly cleaned of dust. Even if carefully maintained every time, the paper filter element cannot fully restore its original performance, and its intake resistance will increase. Therefore, when the paper filter element needs the fourth maintenance, it should be replaced with a new filter element. If the paper filter element experiences problems such as breakage, perforation, or detachment of the filter paper from the end cover, it should be replaced immediately.

3. When using, it is necessary to strictly prevent the paper core air filter from getting wet by rainwater, as once the paper core absorbs a large amount of water, it will greatly increase the intake resistance and shorten the mission. In addition, the paper core air filter should not come into contact with oil or fire.

4. Some vehicle engines are equipped with a cyclone air filter, and the plastic cover at the end of the paper filter is a guide cover. The blades on the cover rotate the air, and 80% of the dust is separated by centrifugal force and collected in a dust collector. The dust that reaches the paper filter is 20% of the inhaled dust, with a total filtration efficiency of about 99.7%. So, when maintaining the cyclone air filter, be careful not to miss the plastic guide cover on the filter element.

Maintenance and upkeep

1. The filter element is the core component of the filter, made of special materials and is a vulnerable component that requires special maintenance and upkeep;

2. After a long period of operation of the filter, the filter element has already intercepted a certain amount of impurities, which can lead to an increase in pressure and a decrease in flow rate. At this time, it is necessary to clean it in a timely manner;

3. When cleaning, be sure not to deform or damage the filter element.

Generally, the service life of the filter element varies depending on the raw materials used. However, as the usage time increases, impurities in the air can clog the filter element. Therefore, PP filter elements generally need to be replaced after three months; The activated carbon filter element needs to be replaced after six months; Due to the inability to clean, fiber filter elements are generally placed at the back end of PP cotton and activated carbon, which is not easy to cause blockage; Ceramic filter elements can usually be used for 9-12 months.

The filter paper in the equipment is also one of the keys. The filter paper in high-quality filtering equipment usually uses ultrafine fiber paper filled with synthetic resin, which can effectively filter impurities and have strong pollution storage capacity. According to relevant statistics, a passenger car with an output power of 180 kilowatts can filter out approximately 1.5 kilograms of impurities during a journey of 30000 kilometers. In addition, the equipment also has great requirements for the strength of the filter paper. Due to the high air flow rate, the strength of the filter paper can resist strong airflow, ensure filtration efficiency, and extend the service life of the equipment

6. In the light textile industry, hydraulic technology is used in plastic injection molding machines, rubber vulcanization machines, paper machines, printing machines, and textile machines.
